Want to avoid majorly overdoing it on Thanksgiving? Spread your eating out. Some families take a couple hours between dinner and dessert. Organize a touch football game or go on walk before your pumpkin pie for extra health benefits….and fun!

Let’s stay smooth AND healthy! Here are some recent Fit Bits* from the show.
We all know that not getting enough sleep has many not-so-pleasant effects. As it turns out, not all all of them are as obvious as falling asleep when you shouldn’t. According to Lifescript.com, sleep deprivation has been linked to weight gain, depression, anxiety, heart disease and insulin resistance. Yikes! We better get our Z’s!
Need even more incentive to eat better? According to Web MD, a healthy diet is as good for your mind as it is for your body. If your diet lacks essential nutrients, it can decrease your ability to concentrate. In addition, eating too much or too little can also mess with your ability to focus. Too much can make you lethargic and too little leads to those distracting hunger pangs.
Trying to lose weight? Many studies say don’t skip meals. If you do your body may think it’s in “starvation mode” and your metabolism may slow down. Plus, you when you pass on, say, lunch…you are more likely to overeat at dinner. In the end, of course, calories in and calories burned are probably the key.
Got a few minutes? Let’s get physical! A new study posted in the Lancet shows that if inactive people put in just 15 minutes of exercise a day, they would increase their life expectancy by 3 years.
*Fit Bits are collected from various studies and news stories as noted. Always talk to your doctor about your health.

Some of the Latest Health Tips* from our Show
VISUALIZE! Even if you’re sitting at your computer, there’s something you can do right now to help you get in shape! Web MD says visualization can be a powerful tool in your workout arsenal. Just picture yourself enjoying your workout and then feeling great when you’re finished. This “mind trick” can be a great motivator!
LISTEN TO YOUR DENTIST! Flossing isn’t just great for your teeth, Web MD tells us that it improves overall body health! By reducing Oral Bacteria, your body has more resources to fight bacteria elsewhere!
CURB THE (UNHEALTHY) SNACKING! Would you believe the average American has added an extra 580 calories and gone from an average of 3.8 meals to nearly 5 meals per day because of our penchant for snacking?! This statistic is according to the Public Library of Science Online Journal. Does that mean we should stop all the between meal bites? Not at all, in fact many nutritionists recommend eating more than 3 times per day. It’s the quality and quantity that counts. Yes, it always comes down to that doesn’t it!
STOP THE MIDNIGHT SNACK ATTACK! Want to cut back on your late night snacking? Try eating dinner an hour later if you can. Just make sure it’s at least two hours before bedtime. It will reduce the hunger that can lead to late night (sometimes mindless) eating.
* Kenny and Sandy are not doctors and don’t even play them on the radio. You should always talk to your doctor about your health.
