Today is a heavy day as we reflect on what happened 10 years ago. We were all so greatly affected. None more so than those who survived or who lost someone close. There have been so many stories of heroism and courage told about that day: from those that saved countless lives and more catastrophe by forcing that plane to crash in that field in Pennsylvania, to those who helped save others at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, to the passengers aboard the planes who phoned home one last time to express their love and courage. Just as our troops put their lives on the line each day for our country and for us…so did the heroes of 9/11: the police, firefighters, officials…and the ordinary folks who were just helping out a colleague, friend…and many times a stranger. For this we say thank you. You are truly an inspiration. Here are some videos that help us capture the essence of the day. Below are some touching highlights of the ceremony at the World Trade Center, actually put together by The Guardian in the UK. And some musical reflection courtesy of Dave Koz and Brian Simpson, made especially for this anniversary. Finally, Beyonce’s rendition of “God Bless the USA” performed on July 4th in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, she released this as a single to aid 9/11 families.
Earlier this year Beyonce released a stirring version of “God Bless the USA” to benefit The New York Police & Fire Widows and Children’s Benefit Fund. Here she performs it on July 4th at the Macy’s Fireworks in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. As we reflect on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and listen to this song we remember that we are all Americans and need unity. We also keep those affected by that day in our thoughts and prayers.
